CONCEPT IMAGERY — VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

FILMMAKER'S STATEMENT

Devilfish is about the fear that being truly seen will confirm the worst thing you believe about yourself. Serena longs for intimacy, but years of being treated as a spectacle have taught her to expect curiosity, fear, and violence instead. She desperately wants to be loved, yet struggles to believe that anyone who truly knows her could love her in return.

SETTING
Set aboard a riverboat nightclub in Baton Rouge in 1931, Devilfish unfolds amid damp river fog and warm interior light. A seductive refuge built to conceal things — liquor, desire, identity, and Serena herself.

TONE
Humid gothic noir. Warm amber light. Black water. Champagne silk. Brass, smoke, and river fog.
